Wow doesn't this question make me think of high school.
My surname is Hawkeswood. I really don't think it's that difficult to pronounce.
But maybe people would fine it easier if the 'e' was gone.
During high school I've heard these different variations from people reading my name on a class role.
Hungerford
Haywood
Hawkesberry
and now for my personal favourite.
Hawksperson
But I do honestly believe our teachers did not have university degrees and that they were picked off the streets to teach.
